Rune: Beast

The mark of wildness lingers in this flat wetland, known among Pelorians as the ‘Broken Pot Country’; as its soil is littered by the gnawed bones and rusted swords of a hundred ancient battles. They are widely regarded as uncultivated people who would fight each other for as little as a broken pot. In truth they are a plantation colony under the administration of imperial officials and bandits. When the Andam Horde marched upon the Arirae, they slew the Durnvoking men as they came, their lion-brother scouts hunting them down for sport. Eventually the Andams were defeated at the Verunian fields. Daxdarius released and armed the slaves and sent them home to hunt down their captors. No Andams survived, but many of their allies did: the bull-people, lion-people, and others. Durnvok was thus repopulated by free slaves and beast people. The region was a contested border region for centuries of war between Carmania and Dara Happa, and only knew lasting peace with the coming of the Lunar Empire.


Creation Notes

The Durnvokings practice animism, and there are six Durnvoking clans, each with its own beast totem. There is presedence for elective kingship (titulated ‘kuk’ after the ancient Andam warlord), candidates nominated through trials of strength and cunning, however nobody remember the last ‘Kuk’, and Durnvok now is governed by administrators on behalf of the Satrap of Doblian. A large Pelorian Lodrilite population along with multiethnic slaves have moved in to work the plantations or man the imperial garrisons.
